Core workflow guide Tally for macOS

Getting Started

Tally helps production and post teams move media without second-guessing the transfer.

With Tally, you can:

  • queue source folders or files
  • choose a destination for ingest
  • verify copied media using checksums
  • preview supported clips
  • inspect technical metadata
  • apply consistent renaming rules
  • generate manifests and reports at the end of a run

Basic Workflow

A typical ingest in Tally follows these steps:

  • Add one or more source folders or files
  • Choose a destination root
  • Configure verification and worker settings
  • Optionally enable renaming
  • Start the batch ingest
  • Monitor progress in the dashboard
  • Review the generated reports and manifests

Source and Destination Setup

Tally allows you to:

  • add source media manually
  • drag and drop supported files or folders into the queue
  • choose a destination root for the ingest
  • monitor destination capacity before starting

This makes it easy to prepare a batch and confirm the target storage is ready before transfer begins.

Verification

Tally supports optional checksum verification during ingest.

Available verification options include:

  • SHA256
  • MD5
  • XXHash64
  • BLAKE3

Verification helps confirm that copied files match the source media after transfer.

If verification is disabled, Tally can still copy files, but post-copy integrity checking will not be performed.

Renaming

Tally supports token-based renaming for batches.

You can build naming patterns using fields such as:

  • original filename
  • date
  • time
  • project
  • camera
  • counter

This allows incoming media to be renamed consistently during ingest while preserving a predictable structure.

Clip Preview and Metadata

Tally can preview supported media and inspect key technical information directly inside the app.

Metadata may include:

  • resolution
  • frame rate
  • duration
  • codec
  • bitrate
  • colour profile
  • audio channel count

For some professional formats, Tally uses additional media tooling to improve metadata extraction and thumbnail generation.

Reports and Manifests

At the end of an ingest, Tally can generate handoff materials including:

  • transfer logs
  • CSV manifests
  • HTML reports

These outputs help create a clear record of what was copied, verified, skipped, or flagged during the ingest.

Supported Workflows

Tally is designed for media ingest workflows where reliability, visibility, and clean handoff matter.

Typical use cases include:

  • camera card offload
  • archive ingest
  • post-production handoff
  • clip verification and tracking
  • technical spot-checking before edit or delivery

Troubleshooting

If something is not working as expected:

  • confirm you are using the latest version of Tally
  • check that source media is accessible
  • verify the destination has enough free space
  • review the transfer log and generated report
  • contact support if the issue continues
